Listen to Obituary

Kay passed away on Christmas morning, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Kay attended the University of Kentucky, where she earned her BS degree and met her husband. After a time together in Lexington, Ky., the Staffords moved to Columbia, SC, where, beginning in 1971, they developed Webb-Rawls Art Galleries from a single store on Gervais Street to a thriving business with 5 locations across the Midlands.

She was a long-time member of the first Presbyterian Church. Retiring in 2018, Kay shared her time between her daughter Camilla’s home in Chapin, where she fell in with a group of close-knit friends she called her “walking group”, and at her daughter Claire’s farm in Calhoun County. She was welcomed with love and open arms by the congregation at the First Baptist Church, St. Matthews. She loved the services there and making new friends at the Senior Center.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Marshal Gladish and Catherine Roberson Gladish of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and her husband of 58 years, Daniel Wesley Stafford. She is survived by her brother, Raymond Marshall Gladish, Jr. (Nancy), daughters Camilla E. Ross and Claire S. McElveen (George), and a crew of devoted grandchildren, Daniel A. Caballero (Margaret), Michael A. Caballero, Rebekah E. Caballero, William C. Rorie, and Susannah McElveen. Powers (Frederic), and Catherine S. McElveen.

There will be a private ceremony. Memorials may be made to Calhoun County Animal Shelter, 140 Purple Martin Road, St. Matthews, SC 29135
