Carolyn (Rickenbaker) Roof

March 27, 1938 — January 20, 2021

Carolyn Rickenbaker Roof, 82, of Lexington passed away 20 January 2021, in care. Born in Columbia and raised in St Matthews, the beloved only child of John Ojayer and Gladys Spigner Rickenbaker, Carolyn moved to Columbia in 1956 to attend business college. She then lived in Lexington for 63 years, from the time of her marriage to Walter Hampton (WH) Roof Junior. She worked at Southern Bell Yellow pages from 1958 to 1998.

She is survived by her son Walter David, sister-in-law Janet ( Wade) Harley, her nephew Patrick Harley, and great nieces, Breanna and MacKinsey Harley. She was (predeceased) by her beloved husband of 58 years in 2016.

Carolyn loved flowers and birds, and put much effort into making the yard of her homes beautiful and welcoming to avian and human visitors.  She was a longtime volunteer at Lexington Interfaith Community Services. She also enjoyed square dancing with her husband. A long time member of St David’s Lutheran Church, she was most recently an active member of the Young at Heart group, and was active in community service and travel. An online service will be streamed via (Mosley site) on Monday 25 January at 3 PM (link?)

In lieu of flowers, donations to St David’s building fund or Audubon Society are preferred. If you must, the preferred florist is: American Floral.
