Calvin C. “Strawberry” “Calvino” Berry

Calvin C. Berry also known as “Strawberry” or “Calvino” , 74, passed away in his home surrounded by his family on October 27, 2019.

Calvin was born on February 6, 1945 to Kelly and Elsie Berry from Batesburg. Surviving are his children Bruce C. Berry of Gilbert, Jenni B. Black (Scott) of Leesville, and Kelly B. Johnson (Jamie) of Batesburg. Eight grandchildren Cameron Berry, Adrian Johnson, Jordan Black, Mallori Berry, Amie Johnson, Annakate Berry, Jayce Black, and Alexander Caughman. One brother Carroll (Katherine) Berry, three sisters Frieda Banks, Edna Steele, and Edith Jennings, and the late Frances Hall, James and Joseph Berry.

Calvin was a 21-year veteran, construction equipment operator, and served with the 122 nd Combat Support Engineers of Saluda. He worked at Carolina Eastman for 17 years in Etrusion and retired from the SCDOT of Saluda with over 20 years of service.

He enjoyed singing in the choir and Sunday school at Riverland Hills Baptist Church for many years. He loved to go out dancing and enjoyed “The Gathering” with his friends from the Christian singles group. He loved the beach and mountains, spending time with friends, family, and grandchildren. He loved to joke and make everyone laugh. He was well known for his love for the Gamecocks.

Service will be held on Wednesday October 30 th at Cedar Creek Church on the Ridge, 788 West Columbia Ave, Batesburg, SC at 3pm. Family will receive friends and family after services. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
