Beulah Sturkie

August 4, 1932 — February 13, 2024

Beulah Mae Wall Sturkie joined her beloved husband Albert, in the Presence of her Savior on February 13, 2024. Beulah was born in Hamlet, North Carolina to Henry and Bessie Butler. Her mother passed away when Beulah was very young. Beulah’s older siblings (H.B, Bill and Elizabeth) watched over her as best they could. When she was 8 years old, Beulah was adopted into a loving home by Rev. and Mrs. James L. Wall. Through her adopted parents, she heard about Jesus and began a lifelong journey of loving and serving Him. Her passion for God led her to serve in many ways in her community, her beloved church (Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church), and the International Pentecostal Holiness Church denomination. She had a deep desire to make known the healing love of Jesus. She shared God’s love by leading Children’s Church, Vacation Bible School, and Girl’s Ministry in her local church. She went on to serve in Girl’s and Women’s ministry on the national level and wrote curriculum for the Girl’s Ministry program. Beulah’s love of praising and worshiping her Lord led her to serve as choir director for many years at Ebenezer P.H. Church. When Beulah was fourteen years old, she met Albert Sturkie and fell in love. The two were married on her 18th birthday. They had two sons early in their marriage and later adopted a daughter. Beulah placed great value on education. She earned her Associates Degree from Emmanuel College and her Bachelors Degree from the University of South Carolina while raising her young sons and became a school teacher. She went on to get her Master’s Degree from Columbia College. She took great joy in teaching and, after retiring from many years in the public school system, she taught in a private school helping children with learning differences. Beulah was a lifelong learner and an avid reader. Even in her declining days, she would read her Bible and inspirational books. After the passing of her beloved Albert in 2000, Beulah moved to Georgia and worked for Emmanuel College and the Georgia Conference of the IPHC. During this time, she

received her certificate of ordination from the IPHC. Spending time on the Emmanuel College campus, she made an indelible impact on the students and cherished being “Nana” to them all. She consistently prayed for and encouraged the students. Beulah was a prayer warrior like no other. She had notebooks of names and pictures that she prayed over daily. She was a true intercessor. If she knew you, she was praying for you! Beulah loved and served the Lord, her family, her church, and her community well. She was wildly generous, helping others and loving all who knew her. We rejoice that she is with her Savior (she lived her whole life for this) but our hearts are sad that she has left us. She will be great missed! There will be a Celebration of her life service on Monday, February 19, 2024, at 1:00pm at the Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church, 501 Church Street in West Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends at 12:00pm. Burial will be private. Officiating the service will be Pastor Gene Henderson and Pastor Seth Cain. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to Ebenezer PHC Children’s Ministry or Women’s Ministry. Beulah is survived by her sons, Lenoir (Jennifer), Al (Debra), and daughter Teresa; her grandchildren, Jason (Tiffany) Sturkie, Lauren (Phil) Kennedy, Nicholas Sturkie, Ashley (Seth) Cain, Rodney Sturkie, Benjamin (Danielle) Sturkie, Brandon (Jessica) Sturkie, Dustin Kelly, Hailey Sturkie; Her great-grandchildren, Declan, Conner and Kellan Kennedy, Silas and Augustine Cain, Adalynn and Olivia Sturkie, Charlotte and Gabriel Sturkie, Kayden Kelly. We express special gratitude to Kristy Coleman, APRN with S.C. House Calls, Carolina Gardens of Lexington and Agape Care for loving and caring for her so well.
