Betty Schmidt

Betty Hadwin Schmidt, 89, peacefully passed away in her sleep January 26 at her home in Cayce, SC.  Betty was born in Hampton County and is the daughter of Wade Hampton Hadwinand Minnie Way Hadwin.  She went to nurse’s training for two years in Columbia after high school but ultimately became a real estate agent for four decades and worked at McGee Real Estate on Meeting Street.  She was named Salesman of the Year in 1989.

Betty was a member of Garden Club and served in her chapter of USABDA, a ballroom dancing association.  She was also a former member of Delta Sigma Phi sorority.  Betty loved playing cards with friends and going on junkets with her friends to Mississippi, Cherokee, NC, and Las Vegas.  Betty also loved gardening in her own yard and keeping it as beautiful as possible.  Betty was charming and charismatic, with a fantastic sense of humor and a smile that was extraordinary.

She is survived by her children, Bobby and Beth, her two living grandchildren Dakota Langston and Alexis Schmidt.  She is predeceased by her parents, Wade and Minnie Hadwin, her brother Jimmy Hadwin, sister Jackie Malone and by grandson, Tyler Williams.

There will be a celebration of her life held on Saturday, January 29 at her home at 405 Rocky Lane from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  Please bring a memory of Betty to share.
