A service to celebrate the life of Betty Hartin Cantrell of West Columbia will be held Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 11:00am located at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1201 Mohawk Drive West Columbia, SC 29169. A repast to follow in the Trinity United Methodist Church fellowship hall.
Betty Hartin Cantrell of West Columbia passed away to be with the Lord on Monday, March 10, 2025, at the age of 89. Born October 24, 1935, she was the daughter of the late,
Raymond and Dwight Hartin. Betty was joined in holy matrimony to the late Preston Cantrell in 1982. Betty was the proud alumna of Brookland – Cayce High School Class of 1952. Mrs. Cantrell excelled in her career as a skilled Business Credit Analyst with Dun & Bradstreet, NYC. Arriving at the Dun & Bradstreet Offices on her 18th Birthday, Betty was an invaluable asset to the company for 33 years. Once retired, Betty tirelessly volunteered her expertise advocating for under privileged youth as a Certified Guardian Ad Litem. She also enjoyed the energy and pace helping incoming USC Freshmen with Course Materials at the SC Bookstore on Campus.
In addition, Mrs. Cantrell volunteered her impressive mathematics and organizational skills for those in the community needing assistance with annual income taxes. At an early age she accepted Christ into her life and was a member at Brookland United Methodist Church in West Columbia where she served faithfully her entire life. Throughout these years at Brookland United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Genevieve Kleckley Circle, Wesleyan Sunday School Class, and helped found and administer the
“Kids Stuff” Methodist youth program. Betty was also one of the founders of the popular, “Loaves and Fishes” free monthly Community Lunch at Brookland United Methodist Church.
Betty and her husband Preston later joined Trinity United Methodist Church where she served faithfully until her declining health. Betty was a beloved wife, devoted mother, and faithful servant.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Hartin. Mrs. Cantrell is survived by two loving and devoted sons, Arthur Joyner and Ian (Candace) Joyner and her sister-in-law, Beth Hartin.Betty was loved and admired by many. She was a West Columbia stalwart, and she will truly be missed. She was a Role Model to all and a Champion of Grace, Strength, Beauty, Kindness and Charity. Betty Hartin Cantrell was indeed, “The Real Deal”
