Benjamin Carol Boozer

April 4, 1936 — April 12, 2022

Benjamin Carol Boozer passed away on April 12, 2022, after a long, full and well lived life. He was 86 years old. He was a native of South Carolina and long-term resident of Charleston and Columbia.

A natural leader and lover of all things South Carolina. Ben spent many years giving back to his community and the stateas a community and city development expert and has had many accolades of note. Most notably, receiving an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Clemson.  He also received the State’s highest award,The Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s civilian honor presented in recognition of a lifetime of extraordinary achievement, service and contributions.  He was the Director of Charleston County’s Parks Recreation and Tourism office for a number of years before heading out to assist the rest of the state.

Ben is survived by his three sons, James Cauthen Boozer Sr, Jay Bret Cauthen and Jace Bart Boozer; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Ben was predeceased by his first wife Mary Ellen Cauthen, the mother of their three sons and he remarried the late Betsy LaRoche. His grandkids referred to him as superman and will most remember him for bringing a childlike quality of playfulness whenever he was around. He was an avid sports fan, travelerand self-proclaimed food expert. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, 28 August 2022 at the Moseley Funeral & Cremation Service, 914 Meeting Street, West Columbia, SC 29169
