A service to celebrate the life of Barbara Ann Turgeon (neé Patterson), 72, of Columbia will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2024, at Moseley Funeral Home in West Columbia. A brief reception with light refreshments will follow. Internment at Fort Jackson National Cemetery will follow at a later date. Barbara passed away on Thursday, April 25, leaving all who loved her shocked and saddened. Barbara was born in Shelby, NC, and was the daughter of Roger Patterson and Phyllis Furr Stone. After a childhood spent primarily in Columbia, where she developed a strong bond with her loving stepfather Garden Butler, Barbara made her home in many locales, her favorite being St. Simons Island, GA, but also including Tampa, FL, Charleston, SC, Las Vegas, NV, Myrtle Beach, SC and Nashua, NH, before returning to Columbia, where she had lived for the past six years. She enjoyed reading, time spent at the beach and in the mountains, going to Dock Street Theater and Trustus Theater with her husband, Bob, and was a diehard fan of Gamecock athletics. She loved her pet cats and had several over the years. Most importantly, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to the members of her large blended family. She will be remembered for her wit, humor, and big heart. Barbara is survived by her husband of 30 years Bob Turgeon; her mother Mrs. Stone; three sons, Alex (Jenn), Chris (Sharon), and Brad Flenniken; three stepdaughters, Stephanie (Allen) Turgeon, Dianne Richardson, and Beth (Steven) Dooley; 19 grandchildren, Hampton, Landon, Georgia, Hannah, Conner, Janna, Jayda, Hannah, Gavin, Bryna, Halle, Bess, Ben, Logan, Brooke, Ryan, Kyle, Drew and Porter; stepbrothers Ben, Nick and Bob Butler; and one watermelon-shaped cat, Caio. She is preceded in death by her father, Roger Patterson, her stepfathers Garden Butler and Gene Stone and her beloved brother, Rick Patterson.
