Arthur Lester Newton, 87, passed away peacefully at his home on March 21, 2022.
Born on May 2, 1934, he was the son of Arthur V. Newton and Mabel Karst Shealy. He is survived by the love of his life, and wife of 68 years, Jerri Ann Amick Newton.
As a proud businessman, Lester owned Newton Truck Sales, Inc. until 1982 and then founded and retired from Congaree Home Center, the company he began over 30 years ago. Once retired, he raised cattle at his farm in Sandy Run.
Lester will continue to live through his children who survive him: Art (Karen), George (Robin) and Chris (Tammy), his 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Helen Baker (Buddy) and Bobbie Golightly. He was predeceased by his son Woody and his sister Juanita Goehring.
He was a loyal and faithful member of Beulah United Methodist Church since moving to Sandy Run in 1984. Lester was passionate about his service on the Building Committee as well as the Staff Pastor Relations Committee and happily volunteered in many other capacities at the church.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 24 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Beulah United Methodist Church. The service will be held at 12:00 pm following visitation.
