Ann Miachelle Hart

November 11, 1943 – August 12, 2025

Ann Miachelle Hart, beloved mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, surrounded by love. Born on November 11, 1943, in Charleston, South Carolina, to Annis Chavis Boyer, Ann was raised in Columbia by her uncle, S.L. Chavis, who instilled in her the values of hard work, education, and compassion that would define her life.

Education was Ann’s calling. She worked tirelessly, caring for children in her home during the day so she could attend night classes at the University of South Carolina. Her determination paid off when she graduated with honors on the President’s List, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Education. She went on to teach seventh-grade Social Studies and World Geography at Northside Middle School in West Columbia, S.C., where she inspired countless students with her passion for learning. Ann’s dedication earned her recognition as Teacher of the Year, and she brought her creativity into the classroom and beyond—teaching drama, building award-winning Christmas parade floats in her front yard, and ensuring her students felt seen, encouraged, and valued.

Ann’s love of reading began as a little girl sitting on the steps of a store in Olympia, enjoying an ice cream cone and reading Superman comic books she couldn’t afford to buy. That love came full circle when, after retiring from teaching, she purchased the long-established Silver City Comics. For nearly three decades, she sold thousands of comic books to eager readers, always excited to spark the same joy in others that she had felt as a child.

Beyond education and books, Ann was a dedicated Notary Public, serving six terms and officiating over 600 marriages, each one performed with care and joy. She loved animals of every kind, delighted in her flowers and garden, and had a gift for laughter and fun that drew people to her. Her kindness, generosity, and ability to connect with anyone left an impression on thousands of lives.

She was married earlier in life to Julian John “JJ” Lujan, with whom she shared her beloved daughter, Angela Miachelle Augustine. She later married Wallace “Wally” Hart, the love of her life, and together they shared many happy years until his passing on April 1, 2015. Their bond was unshakable, and in keeping with her wishes, Ann will be laid to rest holding Wally’s ashes, reunited with him forever. She is also survived by her treasured grandson, Logan Shane Ruot, currently serving in the U.S. Army, who was the pride of her life.

Ann’s legacy is one of love, laughter, learning, and light. She touched the lives of thousands through her teaching, her bookstore, her community involvement, and her warm, open heart. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege to know her.
