Andrew Powell

August 1, 1928 — July 8, 2020

Andrew Lewis Powell, 91 , of West Columbia, South Carolina, departed this earthly life to be with his heavenly Father, on July 8, 2020.  He was born August 1, 1928, in Thomaston, Georgia, to the late Louie Frank Powell and the late Allie Nixon Powell.

Mr. Powell served in the United States Air Force and a member of the 51 st Fighter Wing Squadron . After retiring from Carolina Eastman Kodak Company , he started working with his son at Powell & Associates Fire and Safety Services, where he was the Service Specialist in charge of working on breathing air compressors. He retired from Powell & Associates at the age of 89.

He is a member of the City of Hope Worship Center in West Columbia, South Carolina. He was also a former member of C hristian Outreach Center. F or many years he served on the Management Council and was a vital part of the Missions Team. His service on the Missions Team granted him the opportunity to travel to Honduras and Venezuela , where he was able to lead and supervise the building of several churches.

He was a jack of all trades, and enjoyed spending time in his work shop, better known as the “glory hole” , working on all types of projects. He was a master at wood working , and there was no project he could not fix .

Sharing his endless knowledge with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was his greatest pleasure.

He and Doris e njoyed traveling to different countries such as the entire United Kingdom and Canada, along with many other states with family and close friends .

Lewis loved serving God, reading his bible and discussing the scriptures.  He loved spending time with all of his family , and was even willing to dress up in ridiculous costumes just to make them laugh. He was affectionately known by his family as D ad, Pops, Papa, and Peepa .

He is survived by his loving wife and sweetheart of 70 years, Doris G Powell; son, Michael (Tonya) Powell, West Columbia, SC; daughter, Amaryllis “Amy” Powell, West Columbia, SC; granddaughter s ; Leanne (Jeff) Hammond, St. Matthews, SC; Stacey Smith, Myrtle Beach, SC; grandson; Andrew (Marie) Brigman , West Columbia, SC; great-granddaughter; Lindsey Smith, Myrtle Beach, SC; great-grandsons; Brightman Bruorton , St. Matthews, SC; Scottie Smith, Myrtle Beach, SC; Nathaniel Brigman , West Columbia, SC .

He is preceded in death by his mother; Allie Nixon Powell, father; Louie Frank Powell, sister; Frances Powell Entrekin , and brother-in-law; Harold Entrekin .
