We were so saddened to learn of Dan's death. He approached his illness with great serenity. Dan always had a smile and warm welcome for everyone. He was a wonderful scout leader for our son Lee and the many young men who experienced scouting at First Presbyterian. Our hearts go out to his family.

Dan really made us feel at home in the choir at First Presbyterian and introduced us to lots of musical offerings in the Asheville area. He always had a twinkle in his eye when he talked about the things he loved..family, music, hiking.

The Blackburn family remembers with fondness our time in Troop 8 with Dan. He was a mentor to us all.

Dan was a leader of youth as Scoutmaster of Troop 8. He was also a faithful and insightful member of the Daniel Boone (BSA) Council's Camping Committee. His observations, suggestions, and additional input to the committee contributed significantly to its work. I will miss him.

My sympathy to Dan's family. I always enjoyed chatting with him at programs of the Elisha Mitchell Audubon Society and teasing him about his fondness for the home-made cookies that used to be served.
