Carolyn Rickenbaker Roof, 82, of Lexington passed away 20 January 2021, in care. Born in Columbia and raised in St Matthews, the beloved only child of John Ojayer and Gladys Spigner Rickenbaker, Carolyn moved to Columbia in 1956 to attend business college. She then lived in Lexington for 63 years, from the time of her marriage to Walter Hampton (WH) Roof Junior. She worked at Southern Bell Yellow pages from 1958 to 1998.
She is survived by her son Walter David, sister-in-law Janet ( Wade) Harley, her nephew Patrick Harley, and great nieces, Breanna and MacKinsey Harley. She was (predeceased) by her beloved husband of 58 years in 2016.
Carolyn loved flowers and birds, and put much effort into making the yard of her homes beautiful and welcoming to avian and human visitors. She was a longtime volunteer at Lexington Interfaith Community Services. She also enjoyed square dancing with her husband. A long time member of St David’s Lutheran Church, she was most recently an active member of the Young at Heart group, and was active in community service and travel. An online service will be streamed via (Mosley site) on Monday 25 January at 3 PM (link?)
In lieu of flowers, donations to St David’s building fund or Audubon Society are preferred. If you must, the preferred florist is: American Floral.

We extend our deepest sympathy to Carolyn's family and friends. Claude and I enjoyed many good times with her and Walter square dancing, working with the band years ago and just being friends.
God bless you.

Carolyn was a lovely lady & was truly one of God's special creations. She & Walter square danced with us at the Columbia Twirlers' Dances at the Barn and we also danced with them at various nursing homes led by Milton Roof, caller & Larry Hallman, alternate caller. We would always have a meal afterward & fellowship together.
Walter was a lively person and Carolyn was a match to him, always laughing & talking with others. We have missed Walter & now Carolyn will be with him. Out deepest sympathy to his dear son of whom they were so proud.

I am so sorry for the loss of Carolyn. Every time I saw her, that smile would just light up the room. She loved coming to our office for the Christmas drop-ins...enjoying some of Janet's dip along with all the other good food. She loved square dancing. I remember her at many of those dances. She loved music...coming to our band concerts or listening to our Wild Irish Band play. Such a delightful person that will be missed by her family and so many friends. My sincere condolences to David and her family.
