William Doyle Jones passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at Lexington Medical Center.  Willie was born in Whitmire to Mable A. and Thomas Doyle Jones in 1949.  He moved to Newberry when he was in first grade where he lived and grew up, graduated from Newberry High School in 1967.  He was named Court Jester by his classmates as a senior.  Mr. Jones furthered his education at Midlands Tech where after a 4-year term in the Air Force during the Vietnam Era, he went back to his studies and received his Associate Degree as well as his Tool and Die Journeyman Papers.

IN 1972, “Willie” married his true love, Flora Gilfillan.  He is survived by her, son Doyle Jones and son Jason Jones along with 4 beautiful grandchildren, Noah, Lallah, Jase and Brock. He is also survived by his big brother Houston Jones (Holly) and brother -in-law Will Gilfillan (Sandra) along with nephews Will Gilfillan, Bret Jones, Chad Jones and niece Hope Jones.

Willie was a devoted member and usher at Platt Springs United Methodist Church.  He also served on other various committees over the years.  He was anavid Clemson Fan.  They attended the Clemson home and many away games for over 50 years.  His blood truly did run orange for his Tigers.

The family would like to thank the staff in the medical ICU at Lexington Medical Center for their compassion for Mr. Jones as a patient as well as his family that were able to be with him.  Nurse Laura and Dr. Keith walked us through with love and support.

Willie loved his church and the folks in it.  At this time, due to the virus situation, we are unable to have a memorial service.  If you feel led to give something, we ask that you make a memorial to his beloved Platt Springs UMC at  3215 Platt Springs Road, West Columbia, SC 29170 or the newly created fund in his honor and memory for the Men’s Club shed to be built where families, church groups, whomever would like to spend time together for a picnic.
