Robby graduated from Columbia High School. He was a longtime employee of Carolina Eastman and later owned his own business, Bates Hauling and Backhoe, before he eventually retired.

Robby was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Karen Bates; uncle, Melbourne Clarke and numerous cousins.

Robby was a true friend of everyone that I knew. Had many good times together at Carolina Eastman. He did hauling for me during and after our Eastman days! Very sorry to learn of his passing, a true personality that everyone, who knew him, will miss.
